The sense of distance
When we are children, exploration is a journey: real, physical, made of paths to follow and boundaries to cross. "For generations, the globe has been the symbol of exploration": the unknown worlds to discover seemed endless, and the distance – measured in kilometers – fed the anticipation and wonder of discovery.
Today that distance has changed shape. It is no longer spatial, but mental.
Milan and Sydney, while geographically at opposite ends, have conceptually become very close, whereas Milan and Loazzolo, while geographically very close, are conceptually increasingly at opposite ends.
The authentic connection with the land has become a rare experience, almost disorienting for modern man, accustomed to living reality through screens, filters, and lenses. It is in this distance – which brings us closer to the real – that our journey begins. Twenty-five years ago, after a surprisingly short trip, we arrived in Loazzolo. A place that resembled no other: suspended, authentic, outside of time.
I had the very clear feeling of having arrived in a magical place, far removed from everything that characterizes and standardizes modern life, capable of showing, making discover, and above all, allowing to experience the wonder of nature, its fruits, and their transformation.
